SUCCESS DOWN UNDER
Frome Film and Video Makers latest story effort, The Tip, has been chosen as one of the 10 Best films in this years International Melbourne Festival.

The judges said
“It’s a world-wide happening - true to life - good script - good fun - well done”

“This story is true to life it never pays to send a man to the tip - they come back with twice as much as they have taken - great fun.”

“Well done, I had a good laugh.”

“A successful comedy, well paced and nicely acted and directed.”

The Festival show was on March 16th and 17th. The competition has been running since 1947. There were 58 entries this year - an increase on previous years. There were sixteen entries from the UK with four, including Fromes entry, making it to the 10 Best.

The Tips director Ernie McKenna was unaware that the film had been entered. “First thing I knew about it was from the clubs newsletter.” The club has had ties with Australia ever since Club Chairman Trevor Biggs spotted an article in a video magazine about the Northside Camcorder Club in Sidney and decided to contact them. Ever since the members of the Sydney club have supported the Frome Clubs own competition the Frome Five Minute Festival. “This year we’ve also received an entry from the Melbourne club and it only seemed right to support their competition so I entered The Tip.” explained Club Secretary Phil Marshman.

Almost all the club members were involved as well as the Chapmanslade players who organised a boot sale set for the production. It has been quite a successful film for the club winning a number of awards including Best Club entry in last years SoCo Regional Film and Video Awards.

FROME MEMBERS SUCCESS IN REGIONAL SoCo COMPETITION
Last year Ernie McKenna won the SoCo competition outright with his travelogue Land of the Pharaohs. This year he has done even better not only winning the competition outright again, this time with another travelogue Thailand - Land of Smiles, but picking up the award for Best Travelogue as well. Another of his films A New School Hall also picked up A Highly Commended and an award for Best Editing.

Ernie was not the only Frome member to receive an award in this years competition as John Seal was awarded Runner Up for his poetic film Intimations of Immortality. SoCo is the Southern Counties Region of the Film and Video Institute (IAC).
